Licensed Practical Nurse
Job Description:
A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a healthcare professional who provides essential nursing care under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or physician. LPNs work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and home health environments, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, such as blood pressure, temperature, and pulse.
- Assist with patient care activities like bathing, dressing, and feeding.
- Provide wound care and ensure proper hygiene and infection control.
- Observe and report changes in patients' conditions to registered nurses or physicians.
- Assist in developing and implementing care plans for patients.
- Help in the coordination of patient care with other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including medical histories and treatment plans.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of patients under their care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old to become licensed as an LPN in Maryland.
- Completion of a state-approved practical nursing program.
- Must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) to demonstrate their competency in nursing care.
- Must have a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- LPN candidates must meet the Maryland Board of Nursing's standards for good moral character, which may involve a review of any past criminal activity.
- LPNs must meet continuing education requirements to renew their license, which must be done periodically (every two years in Maryland).
